Please note, it is impossible to determine the exact number of shot pellets that will load into a given shell. This is because when loading a shell, many factors come into play. The fact that most reloading is done using VOLUMETRIC methods, such as the use of bushings or other measuring devices to determine the pellet charge based on VOLUME for a shot charge weight and not on the actual weight itself. Additionally, the shape of the pellets as well as the lead alloy causes variations in the actual number of pellets found in a particular shell.

Good reloading practice would involve periodically verifying the actual weight of both the power and shot charge specially when starting a new powder or shot supply package.
